Elena, the Golden Queen

This was my first attempt in years at drawing a gryphon.  I used a number of references and a couple of tutorials.  Anyway, it came out rough.  I definitely need to improve.  On top of everything else, the stone age relic of a photo scanner killed the resolution and made everything grainy/dirty looking.  I might try to do more later.

Anyway, enough griping and moaning.  I wanted to do some fanart for the Summer King Chronicals by Jess Owen.  Fantastic series.  You should check it out if you haven't already.  In particular, I decided to do a picture of Elena, the mother of Kjorn and the mate of Sverin, the Red King. She doesn't actually appear in the books (she died before the series takes place) but it's said she has more or less the same feathers and eye color of her son.   

Elena is one of the major characters in a fanfiction series I'm working on and I felt like she could use some fanart.
